What the PCI certification codes mean

PCI plant certification is audited quality assurance for precast plants. The letter is the product group (A architectural, B bridge, C commercial structural); the number is the capability level. Full program details at pci.org →

Questions about certified producers

What does PCI plant certification mean?

PCI certification means the plant is audited unannounced against the PCI quality control manuals covering personnel, materials, production, and records. The certification is per plant and per product category, so a company can be certified for architectural precast at one plant and bridge products at another. Specifying a PCI-certified plant is how designers get that quality program without writing their own.

What do the certification codes like AA, C3, and B4 mean?

The letter is the product group and the number is the scope within it. A is architectural precast, B is bridge products, and C is structural precast. A higher number means a wider range of approved products. Codes ending in IL, such as B4-IL, add the Illinois DOT requirements on top of the PCI category.

How do I choose between producers for my project?

Start with the product you need and the certification category that covers it, then look at plant location relative to the site, since haul distance drives both cost and piece size. Any producer here can tell you early whether your panel layout is castable and what it will weigh. Reaching out during design costs nothing and avoids redesign later.

Do these producers serve Northwest Indiana and the St. Louis area?

Yes. Every plant listed here is certified in Illinois or Wisconsin, which is the chapter’s PCI region, and these producers ship well beyond it. Northwest Indiana sits inside the Chicago market these plants serve daily, and the St. Louis area is served from plants in southern Illinois on the Metro East side. No. The directory is free and open, and there is no fee or referral charge for contacting a producer through it. The chapter does not broker work or take a position on which member you choose.
