PCI of Illinois & Wisconsin associate member RHK Construction is bringing back its Halloween fundraiser. The Drop Dead Gala returns on Saturday, October 24, at Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora, and every ticket supports RHK’s work getting students into the trades.
Why a precast restoration contractor throws a gala
RHK’s crew has 18 years in the precast concrete industry, repairing and restoring precast panels, connections, hollowcore, and masonry. The company knows firsthand how hard it is to find people who can do that work. So RHK started Trowel Trades in Education, a booth it brings into schools across Kane and Kendall counties. Students try tuckpointing thin brick, caulking joints, and grouting tile, and they learn the basics of PPE and harness safety on a jobsite.
The gala pays for that program and for students’ early steps into trade schools, licensing exams, and certification courses. In August, RHK hosted a lunch and learn with educators from Aurora schools, Community Unit School District 308, and Waubonsee Community College to line up the work ahead.
What the night looks like
Come in costume. RHK’s SFX makeup artist Carly sets the tone, and the night runs like this:
- 6 to 7 PM: cocktail hour with complimentary drinks and appetizers, and close-up magic from magician Josh Weidner, who also does a stage show later
- 7 PM: RHK introduces its sponsors
- All night: a Latin-inspired menu, a live DJ, photos with King Kong at the Mae Photobooth, and a visit from Cold Blooded Reptiles
- Games: a costume contest, a pint-holding contest, a mummy wrap for kids and adults, limbo, and a surprise granny contest
Doors open at 5:45 PM, and parking is free. The gala is family friendly, apart from the scary actors in costume. Guests under 21 need a parent or guardian. The DJ gets loud, so RHK suggests ear protection for babies and toddlers.
Precast in the sponsor lineup
Two PCI IW producer members are among the starting sponsors: County Prestress & Precast and ATMI Precast. They are joined by Leonardi Appliance, Rock Valley Concrete Cutting, the Law Office of Aaron J. Vanagaitis, RP Rents, Konen Insurance, The Pets Home, Carson Health Services, and Office Depot OfficeMax.
