Precast facades can be far more than gray, uniform panels. Getting an ambitious design built, and built to code, takes technical knowledge and early planning. PCI of Illinois & Wisconsin producer member Wells covers that path in a one-hour webinar on November 17.
From the first sketch to the crane
Matt Quigg, Engineering Solution Manager, and Paul Thomas, Project Development Manager, take designers through the full process of prefabricated concrete facade design. The topics follow the order a project moves:
- Design drivers: concrete mix selection, panel sizing, and panel thickness, including clear spans, wind loads, and bearing details
- Detailing: finishes, corners, wall sections, firestopping, and connections for gravity, lateral, and torsional loads
- Weathertightness: joints and caulking for long-term performance
- Manufacturing and erection: mold design, plant processes, quality control, shipping and logistics, and crane erection on site
The session closes with real project case studies.
What you will take away
Attendees can expect to leave able to:
- Link an architectural vision to choices such as concrete mix and facade articulation
- Understand precast connection design, including gravity point loads and lateral force resistance
- Specify joint and caulking methods that hold up for the life of the building
- See how panelization, mold repetition, and strength testing add value and control quality
- Detail firestops correctly and understand their role in fire-rated assemblies, including how they are executed during manufacturing
Who should attend
Architects, engineers, and designers who specify or detail precast facades, plus contractors and owners who want to know what makes a facade safe and durable. The session earns 1 LU/HSW/PDH.
