Why precast for bridges
Plant-controlled quality, all-weather erection, and shorter closures. Accelerated bridge construction starts with precast elements.

Questions from DOTs and engineers
Why use precast for bridges instead of cast-in-place?
Girders and deck panels are cast in a plant under quality control and delivered ready to set, which moves the slow work off the critical path and out of the traffic envelope. Closures shrink from weeks to days. Plant casting also continues in winter, when site placement of structural concrete gets difficult.
What is accelerated bridge construction?
Accelerated bridge construction, or ABC, builds bridge elements away from the alignment and installs them in a short closure window. Precast is the usual vehicle for it: girders, deck panels, abutment and pier components, and full modular units. The measure of success is hours of disruption to the traveling public rather than months on site.
Which producers hold bridge certifications in this region?
Bridge products fall in the B certification group, and Illinois work often requires the B-IL designation that adds Illinois DOT requirements. Several chapter producers hold those categories. The producer directory lets you filter by certification so you can see which plants qualify for your work.
Does precast work for sound walls?
Yes, and it is the common choice. Precast sound wall panels carry the mass needed for acoustic performance, take architectural finish on the community-facing side, and install quickly along an active corridor. Post and panel systems let panel heights follow grade changes.
Where do I find IDOT and WisDOT approved products?
Both departments publish current standards and approved product lists on their own sites, and those lists govern. This page links to each of them. Work in Northwest Indiana falls under INDOT and work around St. Louis under MoDOT, each with its own approved lists. When a detail is ambiguous, a certified producer can tell you what has been fabricated and accepted on recent lettings in that state.
